Why I love my family
The spring air is filling me with joy as do my children and husband. I constantly think of them and will welcome them home any minute. The first embrace and hello will reconnect us after a day apart. As they get older my thoughts have move from the legistics of helping them to get dressed, eat and sleep to a more deep and profound one of them as people. I can't wait to talk about the ideas they have and the attitudes they are developing. I am so thankful that both Felix and Tilda are unique. Michael and I try to maintain that
"what is good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander".
We cringe when we witness parents asking their child to be more like another. I always internally ask myself "Why would you not want you child to be themselves?"
I feel alone sometimes. I wonder if anyone else sees the world of family the way I do. Thankfully my friends and community do appreciate that children learn to be themselves and I feel comfortable in allowing my child to express who they are even if society says that the is "bad behaviour".
Unfortunately some people do not appreciate this notion. I see my children draw back from possible positive relationships when they are instructed to conform. While I know that they have and will continue to form relationships my hope is that we all accept each other for who we are and not judge.

Tooth Fairy plays piano
Felix list his first tooth a fortnight ago. He is very young to be already having wobbly teeth and the tooth fairy visiting. According to the Steiner phylosophy the loss if teeth symbolizes a childs readiness for academic focus but this usually occurs around 7 years of age. With 2 years until he will formally learn to read a write we have decided that his musical and artistic intellegences can be norished. We have met with a Suzuki piano teacher and over the next month felix (&matilda) will start lessons. The Suzuki method has some methodology which aligns well with our family. It allows children to be children. And is developed for children.

Torch trails in the dark
After a day full of wind flurries and sudden showers that kept us indoors all of Sunday, it was time to get some fresh air before bed time. Matilda (almost 3) was on my back and Felix (just turned 5) was happy walking. As we entered the park the rain came again and we raced to the shelter in the darkness. We made it without getting too wet. We looked at large droplets of water pouring off the roof. I got my camera and tripod out and it was time to take some pictures. We started with some of each other and then some of the dripping rain but when the rain eased, we went out onto the grass in the dark and started to take photos of playing with torches.
It was quite difficult to explain to Felix that the torch would have to point at the camera to get the effect we needed but positioned between 2 trees he at least understood where he must stand. I first took a standard exposure photo which gave us around 2 seconds of open aperture. I then went into a more manual mode and managed to get around 4 seconds. We tried with an LED torch and some torch application on the iPhone.

Obviously the effect is motion blur but what I did find interesting was the blue tinge in the light of the LED torch. I answered my wife knowingly that there are blue LED junctions or some sort to help product white light but it does not answer why the blue is so vivid in sections of the motion blur. I leave that as an un-answered observation and am happy for any comments.

I borned a baby
I am driving throught heavy traffic, doing the school run and hear, "Mamma, I borned my baby last night". "Really Matilda- you mean gave birth to your baby?", I replied. NO I BORNED IT" came an insistant and very sure responce.
My children listen to what I say and I realised in that moment that perhaps I have one more than one occasion mensioned I would like to have another baby or three in the future!

The Dancer
Felix loves to dance and has started Polonez (polish dancing).
Tonight I watched him and enjoyed seeing him:
*look at himself in the mirror with complete admiration
*dob on the "boys" who would not line up like the girls
*almost burst into tears because he thought the boys had to chop up the girls, when in fact the girls were pretending to be wheat
He doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the group yet (the next boy is at least 8) but with a combination of self confidence, being young at heart and loving dance he is openly accepted by all, even when he leaves rehearsal pretending to be a dog!
