I borned a baby

I am driving throught heavy traffic, doing the school run and hear, "Mamma, I borned my baby last night". "Really Matilda- you mean gave birth to your baby?", I replied. NO I BORNED IT" came an insistant and very sure responce.

My children listen to what I say and I realised in that moment that perhaps I have one more than one occasion mensioned I would like to have another baby or three in the future!

The Dancer

Felix loves to dance and has started Polonez (polish dancing).
Tonight I watched him and enjoyed seeing him:
*look at himself in the mirror with complete admiration
*dob on the "boys" who would not line up like the girls
*almost burst into tears because he thought the boys had to chop up the girls, when in fact the girls were pretending to be wheat

He doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the group yet (the next boy is at least 8) but with a combination of self confidence, being young at heart and loving dance he is openly accepted by all, even when he leaves rehearsal pretending to be a dog!

Hey public transport isn't that bad

Even with kids. In fact by it's very nature taking a bus creates a relaxing atmosphere fir children. They can choose where they sit, fall asleep in a pusher and they can both window seats on the same side. As a parent I can look out the window with my children. The key to enjoying ride a bus is timing never run late for a bus and expect a toddler to not have a tantrum at the same time.

Nana almost over

Felix has now been breatfeeding for over 4 year- his whole life in fact. Today might be our last feed. It is getting more and more difficult for him to attach and get milk. Tonight he tried and said they (my boobs) don't want share with him at the moment. I will miss this part of our relationship but also know that it has been such a special gift. I thought I would have felt relief or sadness but I just have a sence of readiness. Weaning can be a gradual process with coming and goings for weeks, months or years. It is really only the beginning of ...?

When to expand a family

We love having children and would welcome more babies in the future. But when is the best time to move from the nuclear family. When you are still within coowee of babyhood? Or is it better to have school aged children? Secondary? Or primary?
I caught myself watching the dynamics of a 10 year old girl with her new born sister the other day. I enjoyed seeing the sisterhood and connection between mother and daughter. It would be nice to have the contrasting parenting responsibilities older child and new born needs so different. What I imagine a great aspect is the mothers ability to share motherhood with a daughter who will hopefully find motherhood easier for herself when the time comes.
Families are wonderful in all shapes and forms, I live my family the way we are at the moment and look forward to our future as an expanded or nuclear family.

Christmas 2008

We spent almost 24 hours celebrating Christmas. Starting at the 5:30 church service on Christmas eve in Nerrium East and ending with a skype call to Poland at 5:30 on Christmas day. Felix was particularly excited and overwelmed by it all. Matilda was generally more interested in eating chocolate than unwrapping gifts. Some highlights included: Felix and cousin Sabina running outside to see Santa disapearing towards the setting sun, Matilda meeting a life sized Chloe (doll) from great-grandmother Winty with such gentleness and affection, Felix wanting to show everyone his remote controlled car from Chris. Felix managed to keep all his gifts to other people a surprise and seemed to enjoy giving as much as receiving. Merry Christmas.
