New beginnings

I have just planted 10 fruit trees in the back yard with a promise to provide us with yummy summer fruits. Such a simple task in such a busy time of our lives. My sister in law has cancer. My dad battles once again with his health. Yet when out in the garden planting, moving, tending I forget it all for a moment. I am glad that we did get a backyard rather than a simple courtyard as we had imagined when moving last year. While the garden supports me and provides the soil for new beginnings I hope to have the energy and resiliance to support my husband, children and family during the next challenging chapter. We are lucky that each of us has a way to support others: Felix writes letters to his aunty, who he knows is sick, to remind her that he loves her and wants her to be better. Tilda continues to laugh and plays games to keep us smiling. Michael actively listens to our emotional outbursts of anger, grief, confusion and analyses and helps to find an answer.

June 2010_School Holidays_day 1

What better way than to start the holidays than to acquire a piece of equipment that can generate freedom. With a 12.8kg old school steel bike, Felix has found riding a chore rather than the freedom to move, accelerate and weave. So we hit the bike shop in search for the BYK.
Felix undertook a test ride and had a wide excited smile, he was in love, while I thought he looked so comfortable so my mind was made up.
After a ride home (I could hardly keep up with the new machine and its boy) we heading out country to play with Sabina and burn a bonny. Heavy rain and two widely excited dogs greet us on our return. Day 1 of the holidays is over.

New Hair

Matilda has got a new hair style are visiting a "real" hairdresser. She almost fell asleep as they washed her hair and she thoroughly loved and soaked up the experience of it all. She is very happy with her hair cut and was dissapointed t hear that we will not visit next week but rather in a couple of months. After some deep thought she ask, "Mamma my hair is too short, can we go the hairdresser to cut it longer?"

Fairy Blankets

I hand Felix a new scrap book. "Has it got fairy blankets" he enthusiastically exclaims. My mind darts around lost for a microsecond and I respond "no sorry not this on". He seems unfazed and merrily open the new scrap book and starts his "school" work. Michael looks at me and asks "what are fairy blankets?" "Ahh you are not a Steiner kid! The tissue paper between drawing paper in main lesson books from school", I respond.

Warm and snuggly

I miss my Tilda now she is off at kinder and i work. I love to snuggle in bed with her listening to her sleeping. The rythmic rise and fall of her breathing will send me to sleep. I hope we can snuggle when we are old ladies too.

Prep test

Felix shuffles excitedly in his chair, Alision wants to ask him some questions and do a test. "I know how to do that" the question is repeated "If HE rhymes with SEA what rhymes with SEA?".......
"Treasure" he wildly replies "Pirates sail on the sea looking for treasure"

No turning back

It is only 2 weeks until my daughter starts school and we are ready. Matilda has been ready for sometime and I marvel at her rediness. Socially she has demonstrated her ability to get on with a wide range of people and seems popular with a range of people during our prep play catch ups. Toward the end of last year I did not have any apprehension to her finishing kinder and heading to school although I did worry that she would be bullied a little as she did not stand up for what she really believed. After a few months of her knowing she is off to school that is no longer a problem....
